Ear Examination (Otoscopy)

Otoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the ear canal and eardrum. It involves the use of a handheld device with a screen and light which will allow me to record your ear canal and ear drum. During the procedure I will gently insert the device into your ear canal to get a clear view of the ear structures and to record the condition of your ear before any treatment.

Wax Removal (Microsuction)

Microsuction is a safe and effective method used to remove excess earwax and foreign objects from the ear canal. It involves using the camera and a suction device to gently extract the wax without causing any discomfort or damage. You can see examples of this in practice if you click on the Facebook or Instagram icons at the bottom or top of the page.

The procedure typically starts with a thorough examination of the ear canal using the microscope, allowing me to assess the amount and consistency of the wax. If necessary, a small amount of olive oil or ear drops may be applied to soften the wax, making it easier to remove however you will have been advised before attending your appointment to carry this out for a few days prior.

Once the wax is softened, I will carefully insert a small suction tube into the ear canal. The suction device will then be activated, creating a gentle vacuum that draws out the wax. Throughout the procedure, I will closely monitor the process ensuring precision and safety.

After the wax has been successfully removed, I will conduct a final inspection to ensure the ear canal is clear. You will be able to see images of your ear post-treatment. Advice will then be given on maintaining good ear hygiene and any recommended follow-up treatments or precautions.

Hearing Assessment

A hearing test is a diagnostic procedure that measures an individual's ability to hear sounds. It is designed to assess the sensitivity and clarity of a person's hearing, helping to identify any potential hearing loss or impairment.

During the hearing test you will be asked to wear headphones or earphones and sit in a quiet room. The Tympa device will then play a series of sounds at different frequencies and volumes. You will be asked to click a button whenever you hear a sound. This process helps determine the softest sounds you can hear at various frequencies.

Once the test is complete, I will analyse the results and give you a comprehensive report. The report will indicate your hearing thresholds, which represent the softest sounds you can hear at different frequencies. It may also include a graph called an audiogram, which visually represents the person's hearing ability. Based on the results I can determine if you have normal hearing or if there is any degree of hearing loss. In that event I would advise you to seek further detailed tests. I do not sell hearing aids so you can be assured of an honest assessment.
